Sharp things
In the past year, i started collecting knives. It started out with my Spyderco Native II. Then i moved on to Benchmade. I think Benchmade's knives are extremely well engineered, especially those with the Axis locks. A really great approach to locking the blade in the open position, its so simple, effective and strong, why didn't anyone think of it sooner? Not to mention, i like the materials Benchmade chooses, they make nice, light and durable knives that would seem to outlast their owners. Here's a pictures of my growing Benchmade collection.
From the top right, clockwise:
Benchmade 710HS McHenry & Williams. M2 tool steel recurve blade with Axis lock, G10 Scales. This knife is great, but a little on the large side, with a blade length of roughly 4". The recurve makes slicing easy. Plus the tool steel blade really holds an edge.
Benchmade 910HS Stryker, by Elishewitz. Again M2 tool steel, but with a liner lock. As you can see, this is pretty much my workhorse. I believe Elishewitz does a lot of designing for military knives. This thing is great, tanto blade made for puncturing, roughly 3.5", and reinforced tip for greater tip strength, wearing G10 scales. The only con of this knife is the liner lock. Mine eventually wore out, so now i have a loose locking knife, not too safe, but i have yet to return it to Benchmade for service (which from my experience is really good with dealing with their knives).
Benchmade 942 Osborne. Awesome folder. Light, fast opening, comfortable. Aluminum scales, and a 154 Crucible blade. This knife sharpens nicely, but edgeholding isn't as top notch as tool steel. 3.25" blade with Axis lock makes this one of my favorite for Every Day Carry (EDC).
Benchmade 100 River/Rescue. This is my second fixed blade knife, and i love it. Size is perfect, it's not overly cumbersome. The blade is a sheepsfoot, so it lacks puncture geometry. Great for slicing and push cuts. It's really comfortable and easy to handle. This is the latest addition to my Benchmade family, made from 440C, and G10 contoured scales.
Benchmade 140HS Nimravus by Elishewitz. I really like Elishewitz's style. Straight to the point (no pun), high tip strength, and mean looking. Don't let the picture fool you, this knife is 9.25" overall, with 5" blade. Like the 100, this knife has a great feel in your hand. Again, tool steel here, contoured G10 scales.
Benchmade 42 Bali-Song. Butterfly knife, 440C blade, and sweeeeet 6Al-4V Titanium handles!!!!! Fun to flip, it's not that sharp, so i don't cut myself as much as i would if it was as sharp as my other knives. Thanks to my brother who got me into butterfly knives, he's a pretty good flipper as well.
